Il voyage et \u00e9tudie \u00e0 travers le Maroc, la Sicile, la Gr\u00e8ce, la Turquie ou l\u2019Inde, des exp\u00e9riences qui marqueront profond\u00e9ment l&rsquo;ensemble de son \u0153uvre.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Son s\u00e9jour en France d\u00e9bute au sein de la demeure azur\u00e9enne de sa grand-m\u00e8re maternelle et la r\u00e9gion devient son point d&rsquo;ancrage en 1981, ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 il s&rsquo;inscrit \u00e0 la Villa Arson de Nice. Entre 1987 et 1989, Paris devient son atelier, gr\u00e2ce au marchand d&rsquo;art Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Nocera, qui lui octroie un studio et une r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 Vaugirard. C\u2019est \u00e0 cette p\u00e9riode qu\u2019il a l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 de travailler pour Anne Lettr\u00e9e, avant son retour dans le Sud de la France.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Massholder est profond\u00e9ment inspir\u00e9 par les artistes du d\u00e9but du XX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle et les grands ma\u00eetres comme Van Gogh, Picasso ou Dali, entre lesquels il tisse sans cesse de nouvelles connexions. Comme il le dit de ses propres mots \u00ab J&rsquo;ai voulu donner la main de Dali \u00e0 Picasso. Ce souhait est la force de mon travail \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Ma\u00eetrisant un \u00e9ventail de techniques, de la peinture \u00e0 la sculpture, du dessin \u00e0 l&rsquo;impression, Massholder d\u00e9ploie son \u0153uvre \u00e0 travers des styles divers, du primitivisme au surr\u00e9alisme. D&rsquo;origines franco-allemande et italienne, il attribue son expressionnisme \u00e0 son p\u00e8re allemand, son impressionnisme \u00e0 sa m\u00e8re fran\u00e7aise, et son amour pour la Renaissance \u00e0 son grand-p\u00e8re florentin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Son travail r\u00e9v\u00e8le un univers in\u00e9dit, \u00e9trange et fascinant, constamment r\u00e9invent\u00e9 par l&rsquo;utilisation d&rsquo;une palette vari\u00e9e et de techniques diverses telles que l&rsquo;huile, le pastel et l&rsquo;encre.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Les \u0153uvres de Massholder cristallisent ses d\u00e9sirs, ses peurs et ses r\u00eaves, \u00e0 travers des s\u00e9ries de th\u00e8mes tr\u00e8s marqu\u00e9s. Ces th\u00e8mes r\u00e9currents se manifestent sous forme de signes symboliques et all\u00e9goriques, tels que le triangle, le soleil, la lune, le poisson, le paon, la pyramide ou le sphinx. La vie et la mort sont \u00e9voqu\u00e9es sous la forme d&rsquo;\u0153ufs ou de cr\u00e2nes. Massholder construit ainsi un v\u00e9ritable vocabulaire iconographique explorant les m\u00e9andres et les d\u00e9rives de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, o\u00f9 ses images r\u00e9sonnent comme des proverbes. Le requin, assimilant la voracit\u00e9 du monde des affaires \u00e0 la puissance sexuelle, et le dollar-monster, d\u00e9non\u00e7ant le monde de la finance internationale porteur de mort, en sont de parfaits exemples.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Au fil de sa carri\u00e8re, Massholder d\u00e9veloppe plusieurs s\u00e9ries en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 des personnalit\u00e9s historiques, des lieux de culte ou des textes litt\u00e9raires majeurs. Il puise son inspiration dans les lettres de Vincent van Gogh adress\u00e9es \u00e0 son fr\u00e8re Th\u00e9o, la colline charg\u00e9e d\u2019histoire du Monte Verit\u00e0, ou des ouvrages tels que <em>La Divine Com\u00e9die<\/em> de Dante, l&rsquo;<em>Iliade<\/em> et l&rsquo;<em>Odyss\u00e9e<\/em> d&rsquo;Hom\u00e8re, ou <em>Le Serpent Vert<\/em> de Goethe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 expos\u00e9 dans diff\u00e9rentes villes \u00e0 travers l&rsquo;Europe : Heidelberg, Berlin, Francfort, Munich, Nuremberg, Bruxelles, Gand, Lausanne, Venise, Paris, Strasbourg, Nice et Monaco. En 1997, il remporte le Prix sp\u00e9cial du Jury du Festival des Arts de Montreux.
